EDIT: I really don’t see why this message was flagged: as I see it, this message is/was completely on topic, and there was nothing untoward in what I wrote below. The only edits I made were these two sentences.
I feel that voting in all and any elections you’re eligible to vote in is a moral duty. If you don’t vote, you lose your right to complain about the government that came about as a result of the election in question. But making it mandatory increases the risk of people who are not really interested voting for extremist parties and/or candidates. Here, I mean “extremist” as in the sense of “belonging to the extremes of the political spectrum, not necessarily undemocratic far-right or far-left, although I have a serious problem with undemocratic politicians of any persuasion.
