I would have replied: “it depends”, which is something different than “both are fine”. I really like the approach of the TV stations here (in the Netherlands). Subtitles are the default solution, so you can at least hear the original language, except for films aimed at young children who cannot yet be expected to be able to read. In those cases, dubbing is used.

Subtitles. I think dubbing really distracts, since the mouth movements will not match the words being heard.
